There is an active investigation into an industrial accident that left
an employee of Norfolk Southern dead earlier this afternoon.
According to initial reports, emergency responders were called to 125 County Road (Norfolk Southern Yard) for reports of an injured person shortly before 1:30 p.m.
Based on preliminary reports, a wire from a crane snapped as it was lifting a freight container, causing the container and the crane to collapse on the employee.
The male employee was pronounced dead at the scene.
The name and age of the victim is not being released pending notification of next of kin.
JCPD is on the scene collecting information and witness statements, however, Norfolk Southern Rail Police are leading the investigation and OSHA has been notified.
