Illegal Drug Raids Net Newark Police Nearly 800 Xanax, Oxycodone Pills; Eight Arrested

Newark Police officials are reporting officers have arrested eight individuals and recovered $8,602.61 in proceeds from drug sales, ¾ lbs. of marijuana, 615 Xanax pills, 60 Naloxone pills and 83 Oxycodone pills during the execution of search warrants at three Clinton Avenue locations on Thursday.

According to a statement released by Newark Police Director Anthony Ambrose, his detectives from the Special Enforcement Bureau responded to 303, 307 and 317 Clinton Avenue on citizen complaints of criminal activity occurring in these locations.

Director Ambrose said detectives developed sufficient evidence to obtain search warrants for each location.

According to Director Ambrose, arrested at 303 Clinton Avenue are **Mr. James A. Harris, 50, of Newark,** who detectives charged with CDS Possession (marijuana), CDS Distribution, CDS Distribution Within 1,000-ft. within a School and CDS Distribution Within 500-ft. of a Housing Complex; and **Mr. Cory Lark, 49, of Newark,** is charged with Contempt of Court on an outstanding warrant.

Members of the Humane Society also responded to this location to remove a pit bull Director Ambrose said.

Authorities said those arrested at 307 Clinton Avenue are **Mr. Shakil A. Copeland, 20, Mr. Quade Wilson, 37, Mr. Olajuwon Tillery, 29, and Mr.Isaiah Ketchens, 25, all of Newark**.

Authorities charged each of the 307 Clinton Avenue suspects with three counts of CDS Possession (Oxycodone, Xanax, and Naloxone), CDS Distribution, CDS Distribution Within 1,000-ft. within a School and CDS Distribution Within 500-ft. of a Housing Complex.

Finally, Director Ambrose said his detectives arrested **Mr. Devante Smith, 23, and Mr. Dominique Smith, 24, both of Newark** at 317 Clinton Avenue.

Police charged both men with CDS Possession (marijuana), CDS Distribution, CDS Distribution Within 1,000-ft. within a School and CDS Distribution Within 500-ft. of a Housing Complex.

These charges are merely accusations. Each suspect is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
