Officials from the NJ State Police are looking into the cause of a crash that had a vehicle overturn on a highway in East Orange on Saturday evening.
According to preliminary reports, the crash happened on I-280 East just before exit 12 Garden State Parkway in East Orange at around 5:10 p.m.
Reports say a car pulled over on the shoulder of the highway was attempting to merge back onto to the eastbound lanes when a Ford truck, traveling in the right lane, collided with the car causing the vehicle to flip over several times.
The collision caused the truck to come to a rest on the shoulder facing the grass while the other vehicle ended up a short distance away; also on the shoulder.
Police say the airbag on the severely damaged vehicle deployed after flipping over several times and a Good Samaritan assisted the driver from the smoking car.
Emergency responders arrived at transported the driver to an area hospital suffering non-life threatening injuries.
The official cause of the crash remains under investigation.
