An Atlantic County man was arrested and charged after he reportedly pulled a gun as authorities were executing a search warrant at his home.
Today, the Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office, with the assistance of agents from the FBI and local police agencies, executed a search warrant on both the business and the residential addresses of Dr. James Kauffman, as a result of an investigation into suspected criminal activity.
Upon executing the search warrant this morning, Dr. Kauffman displayed a Ruger 9mm handgun.
Ultimately a hostage negotiator was successful in getting Dr. Kauffman to surrender to authorities.
He was taken into custody of the Psychiatric Intervention Program for monitoring and is now under arrest as authorities investigate. He was charged him with unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, possession of hollow point bullets and obstruction of the administration of law.
As a result, the investigation will continue based upon the information gleaned from today's search and other leads.
There were no additional details being released at this time, pertaining to the investigation.
It is unclear at this time, if investigation is at all connected with the death of Kaiffman's wife who was found shot to death on May 10, 2012, in the home they shared.
