Authorities today rescued more than 200 dogs from a township home who they say was an extreme hoarding case.
After tips received from area residents Monmouth County police responded to the Bennett Road home where they discovered hundreds of dogs - including pugs, Yorkies, and Chihuahuas - living in inhumane conditions.
At the home, officials recovered as many as 226 dogs as of approximately 6 p.m. but the searched continued added officials. Among the dogs, there were some giving birth as officials arrived at the scene.
The dogs are expected to be transferred to the Monmouth County SPCA or St. Hubert’s Animal Welfare Center for ongoing treatment.
The investigation and search are continuing.
