The Hudson County Sheriff’s Office, under the leadership of Sheriff Frank Schillari, recently welcomed a special guest for a day of recognition and hands-on training.
Dawson Palmarini, who survived a devastating 2019 car crash that left him in a coma for a month and with a traumatic brain injury, visited the office with his father, Vinny Palmarini, to thank the first responders who played a vital role in saving his life.
According to Hudson County Sheriff officials, Dawson’s visit was a part of his ongoing mission to personally express his gratitude to the police, fire, and EMS workers who helped him after the crash.
Sheriff Schillari spoke highly of Dawson’s resilience and determination, saying, "Officer Dawson will always be a part of the Hudson County Sheriff’s Office family. His story of gratitude and strength reminds us of the lasting impact first responders have. We are proud to have been part of his journey."
Vinny Palmarini credited the quick actions of the first responders for his son’s survival, stating that without their heroic efforts, Dawson might not be here today.
The family has since been committed to thanking every officer, firefighter, and paramedic involved in his rescue and recovery.
During the special day, Dawson took part in various training activities alongside officers in several units, including Patrol, Communications, K9, Motors, SWAT, Crime Scene Investigation, and the Detective Unit.
To honor Dawson’s visit, Sheriff Schillari presented him with an Official Honorary Sheriff's Officer recognition, as well as patches, challenge coins, and a department hat.
Sheriff Schillari also expressed gratitude to the officers, detectives, and supervisors who made the day possible, with special thanks to Det. Flores of the Sheriff’s Community Relations Unit for organizing the event.
