According to Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez, on July 31, the United States Marshal Service New York/New Jersey Regional Fugitive Task Force apprehended Mr. Jose Romero, 35, on charges related to the sexual assault of a 4-year-old male juvenile.
The defendant, residing in a home where the victim frequented, is not related to the victim.
Romero, hailing from Union City, is facing charges of Aggravated Sexual Assault and Endangering the Welfare of a Child.
Following his arrest at his residence, Prosecutor Suarez said he was taken to the Hudson County Correctional Facility and awaits his first court appearance, with a Detention Motion filed by the State tentatively scheduled for August 4, 2023.
Prosecutor Suarez acknowledged the efforts of the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit and the United States Marshal Service New York/New Jersey Regional Fugitive Task Force for their investigation leading to the arrest.
It's important to remember that the above charges are only allegations, and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty, in accordance with R.P.C.3.6(b)(6).
