How To Maximize Growth As Marriedpreneurs When We Have Different Capacities

New Jersey

By: O.L./Sway Buckley

Not gonna sugar coat it; it's easy to get frustrated with your spouse when you don't have the same capacity or drive in business.

Q3 MasterclassIt doesn't feel good initially if you've always had a vision of how growing a legacy together would look. Sometimes, you may start off on the same page, but life happens, and perspectives change.

What do you do when you're no longer in unison with growing your business with your spouse?

From experience, we've learned a few lessons over the years that have helped us avoid frustration and stagnation. Some of those lessons are:

Marriedpreneur Life

  • Be self-aware: Spend time alone thinking about where your head is emotionally and if your viewpoints and priorities have changed. That's not a bad thing.
  • Communicating Updates ASAP: Share updates as soon as you can. It's better for your spouse to hear it from you than get frustrated because there haven't been any updates, so they're operating off outdated data.
  • Appreciate Your New Differences: Be willing to adjust what growing may look like this season. Maybe one of you has a larger capacity for business while the other prefers to support in the background. That's not a bad thing.
  • Readjust Wealth Roles: People change. Priorities change. Seasons change. If we don't change/assess the wealth roles amid the other changes, we set ourselves up for disappointment in the long run. This should be done periodically throughout the year.

One of the ways that we stay consistent with these areas is by having our routine legacy meetings. They cover our marriage, business, and any other changes we want to address. If you and your spouse want to implement, you can use our free Marriedpreneur Operating Sytems Checklist here.
