Believe it or not, building a business together has improved our marriage.
Let me tell you why.
But first, many believe that it's unrealistic and impossible to build a business with your spouse because it would ruin the marriage.
But it doesn't have to be that way.
After over ten years of working together in business, we've grown closer. Here's our observation:
>> Two people get married to spend the rest of their lives together. But the crazy thing is that many spend most of their time with other people rather than their spouse. This seems to be okay until it isn't. Many learned during the pandemic that their spouse wasn't who they imagined they would be once forced to work from home.
The sad truth is although many spend most time apart, it's easy to grow apart. You have to be extra diligent to be sure to take steps to spend more time together. Growing apart is fixable. It often requires learning each other again from scratch.
>> Building a business with your spouse requires humility and consistent communication (at least until you get your rhythm down). This only makes you a better individual and increases your skill set to listen and troubleshoot.
>> You become more aware of their strengths as seasons change. When working in a business with your spouse, you will undoubtedly find yourself in new predicaments revealing additional insight you never knew about each other.
Either way, the truth is, you're not the same person your spouse married and vice versa for you too. This is why it's easy to have misunderstandings. You are 'beefing' with the older version of yourself.
In short, working with your spouse in business requires more communication, better emotional compartmentalization, and greater opportunity to grow together rather than apart!
