Hoverboard Fire Inside Apartment Forces Evacuation of Irvington Building

A building in the township was evacuated overnight after a fire inside an apartment was determined to be an ignited hoverboard according to preliminary reports.

Firefighters rushed to the scene where they reportedly forced entry into an unoccupied basement apartment inside the large building that has about 35 apartments and is located at 278 Orange Avenue a little after 10:30 p.m.

Heavy smoke billowing through the halls of the building had a superintendent order residents out onto the streets after banging on doors according to residents that contacted RLS Metro Breaking News.

Fast response by firefighters had crews locate the burning hoverboard that was reportedly plugged into an outlet, charging according to preliminary reports.

Firefighters swiftly knocked down the fire before performing a thorough search of the affected apartment and building where there were no injuries.

Residents were allowed back into their apartments within a half hour but occupants that resided in the apartment where the overboard ignited, were not immediately allowed to enter the apartment pending an investigation reports said.

The incident remains under investigation.
