Police recovered nearly a dozen shell casings from at least two types of weapons after shooters traded gunfire in a residential neighborhood in Newark's upper West Ward on Monday morning.
According to authorities, gunfire rang out in the vicinity of 55 Oakland Terrace around 1:40 a.m.
When officers arrived at the scene, they found multiple shell casings and a bullet struck the second-floor apartment of a nearby house on the block.
Police said they searched the area for victims then placed hospitals in the region on alert for walk-in gunshot victims, but as of 4 a.m., there were no injuries reported.
Authorities contacted residents in the house struck by bullets and confirmed no one inside suffered injuries.
Police say suspects wielding rifles and handguns fled the scene after firing shots. They remain at-large, according to police.
