House Fire in Newark's North Ward Leaves More Than a Dozen Displaced

Firefighters battled an early morning blaze that broke out in a house in the city's North Ward. 

Crews responded to heavy fire in a multi family, three story house located at 40 Mount Pleasant Ave. shortly after 2:30 a.m.  where heavy fire engulfed all levels of the house upon arrival. 

It took firefighters almost two hours to bring the blaze under control. 

The American Red Cross assisted in finding shelter for about 15 adults and two children.

Shortly before 1:30 a.m., firefighters reported to a 2-alarm fire that broke out in a vacant house in the 40's block of Elliot Street.
