The Essex County Sheriff’s Department is investigating a shooting that reportedly occurred inside Branch Brook Park on Sunday night.
The investigation began after officials at University Hospital notified Newark Police that a gunshot victim had entered the emergency room with a non-fatal gunshot wound.
Upon learning that the incident took place inside the park, the case was turned over to county officers, who searched locations within Branch Brook Park for evidence related to the shooting.
The victim's condition has not been reported as fatal, and the motive behind the shooting remains under investigation.
Authorities are working to identify a crime scene and determine the circumstances leading to the gunfire.
