In a touching tribute to the enduring impact of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., the Hillside community will gather in a poignant ceremony led by the Hillside NAACP and its esteemed President, Nicole Graves-Watson.
In a solemn yet uplifting moment, a wreath will be laid at the Dr. King memorial on Jan 15th, a site of reflection and inspiration located on Liberty Avenue across from Hillside High School.
President Graves-Watson shared these words:
"Today, we stand not just to remember but to acknowledge the ongoing journey toward equality. "
"Dr. King's sacrifices and his unwavering commitment to civil rights light our path forward. We've come far, but the road ahead reminds us of the work still needed to fulfill his dream, Graves-Watson said.
The ceremony will serve as a reminder of the significant progress made since the days when Black Americans faced legal barriers to full societal participation. Yet, it also underscored the vital work that remains in the fight for racial justice.
The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), established in 1909 and renowned as the country's oldest civil rights organization, continues to be at the forefront of this battle.
With a focus on pivotal areas such as criminal justice, healthcare, education, climate, and the economy, the NAACP tirelessly works to dismantle racism and foster change.
