The Ocean County Prosecutor's office has launched an investigation into a shooting that left a 30-year-old man dead overnight at a housing complex in the city overnight.
Police responded to reports of shots fired that rang out in the 20's block of James Street where they arrived to find a male victim suffering a gunshot wound to the head in front of the Hampton Garden Apartments according to preliminary reports.
The unidentified victim was pronounced dead a short time later by medical staff reports said.
Police taped off the area where they canvassed around the building for evidence to support a motive for the shooting.
The investigation remains active and ongoing.
