According to Paterson Police today, Sgt. J. DeSalvo, Detectives J. English, B. Culmone, S. Gomez, and J. Candelo were assigned the objective of investigating burglary that occurred inside of #681 Main Street “Saint Agnes Church.”
Police say the location was burglarized overnight and the perpetrator entered through the Mary Street side door and stole an unknown amount of money, (2) two brass in color candleholders (42 inches) with white candles (24 inches).
According to police, the complaint provided further information that the location of a church was burglarized on August 30, 2019, in the early morning hours and the perpetrator stole approximately $500.00.
Police say further information indicated there were multiple burglaries spanning the months of August and September at the location known St. Agnes Church, which is equipped with cameras.
Detective B. Culmone was able to review the video footage where on this occasion the suspect was seen attempting to remove the tabernacle from behind the altar, and breaking into two donation boxes located within the church according to police.
Ultimately the suspect is observed leaving the church with two large candle holders in each hand, and two white candles in his right shorts pocket.
Patrol Unit #115 Officers Pizza and Munoz were also dispatched to the aforementioned location in order to complete an offense report for the burglary.
Police say Detective B. Culmone disseminated an image of the suspect to these officers who in turn conducted a search of the surrounding area in order to locate the suspect.
Unit 115 located an individual later identified as Antonio Figueroa a few blocks away who matched the physical characteristics of the suspect from the church surveillance video.
Sgt. J. DeSalvo, Detectives J. English, B. Culmone, S. Gomez, & J. Candelo located an abandoned house at #46 Chadwick Street, which is in close proximity to the church.
Inside this abandon, location police say they recovered (2) two brass in color candleholders (42 inches) with white candles (24 inches).
After reviewing the previous video footage, the suspect Mr. Antonio Figueroa, 35, was charged with (1) count of Burglary, (1) count of theft, Burglary.
The Paterson Police Detective Bureau is currently investigating the other burglaries.
