Garfield Firefighters battled a late night fire that ignited inside a home filled with trash.
According to preliminary reports, the two-alarm fire broke out at 25 Cedar Street at around 10:30 pm where firefighters arrived at the scene and observed flames ripping through the rear of a 1.5 story home set back behind another house.
Reports say, due to severe hoarding conditions, firefighters were unable to get ahead of the fire causing heavy flames to spread throughout the home, then through the roof.
At one point durung the fire, crews evacuated from the building where they began defensive operations as flames became ferocious inside the home.
There were no injuries reported as firefighters brought the blaze under control within two hours.
Mutual Aid from Saddle Brook and Wallington assisted on the scene.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
