Hit-and-Run Injures Trenton Officer, Initiating Police Involved Shooting

Authorities today are investigating an incident that left an officer injured and a police-involved shooting early this morning under investigation.

Officers on patrol around 1a.m. today, exited their vehicle to investigate a car parked on the road in the area of Chestnut Street. 

As they approached the car, the driver drove right into the officers, striking one of them. 

The unhurt officer opened fire, striking him driver in the neck and arm, police said.

The suspect than took off down East State Street where he crashed into several sped off on East State Street where he crashed into several parked cars, police added. 

The officer was taken to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, where he was treated and released.

The identity of the officer was withheld.

Driver, later identified as 23-year-old Jeremiah Sanchez - was transported to Capital Health Regional Medical Center in Trenton where he is said to be in stable condition, according to police.

The incident is being investigated by by the Mercer County Homicide Task Force and the Trenton Police Department's Internal Affairs Unit.
