Newark Police detectives are looking for the driver and several occupants inside a vehicle that struck a police officer behind a football field in Newark's South Ward Saturday morning.
It happened around 3:35 a.m. on the Goldsmith Avenue side of Untermann Field near Hobson Street.
Preliminary information indicated that a Newark Police officer suffered non-life threatening injuries after a silver or light-colored BMW driver ran over the officer's foot during an investigation.
The officer was taken to the hospital, where he is expected to recover.
Police believe that the car was occupied by about four males who remain at large.
One of the suspects was reportedly struck by a car during the incident and may have suffered serious injuries.
Police recovered an unoccupied stolen Range Rover at the scene.
