Police in Newark are searching for the driver involved in a hit-and-run that left an electric scooter rider with severe injuries in the city’s South Ward.
Emergency responders were called to the scene near the intersection of Elizabeth Avenue and Watson Street on Tuesday night at around 8:55 p.m.When police and EMS arrived, they found a man lying on the ground with significant injuries after being struck by a vehicle that fled the scene, speeding down Watson Avenue.
According to witnesses, bystanders quickly assisted the victim, moving him from the middle of the road to the sidewalk to prevent further harm from passing vehicles.
The injured man was transported to University Hospital, where he is expected to survive despite suffering several broken bones, including fractures to his leg.
The victim was traveling in the same direction as the car when the driver reportedly cut him off while making a turn, striking him in the process.
The driver responsible for the collision remains at large and authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward.
