Authorities are investigating a shooting that injured a man overnight in the city.
According to residents in the 900 block of Roanoke Avenue, gunfire rang out at around 12:30 a.m. sending several police units to the scene where a male victim was struck by gunfire.
'We saw several Hillside and Elizabeth police vehicles along with an unmarked vehicle canvassing the area after some commotion that appeared to be coming from some young people across the way" several residents said.
The victim reportedly suffered a non-life threatening wound to the head/neck area when he was transported to Trinitas Hospital.
Circumstances behind the shooting has not been confirmed by authorities at this time, but residents in the very quiet, tight knit block that borders Elizabeth told RLS Metro Breaking News that several "young people" were engaged in a some type of celebration into the evening shortly before the neighborhood became flooded by cops.
"We've been living around here for a while and I think the adults from that house may be on vacation because I haven't seen them in a while" said a couple that were on their way to morning church mass who approached our staff, eager to know what happened overnight in the neighborhood.
"Yes it is a shocker for the shooting because we don't get those but no it's not a shocker for the neighborhood changing. We get our share of things happening on Roanoke that's for sure. Especially when the kids over there want to "start their stuff" on a given evening" the couple continued.
It is not immediately clear if any arrests were made.
We are awaiting information for the Hillside Police Department regarding the incident.
