A Hillside man was arrested yesterday after altering a tax statement to reflect a payment rather than a balance.
Yesterday, Lee P. Touchque was arrested by Hillside police for fabrication of evidence and false swearing, Lieutenant Vincent Ricciardi said this afternoon.
In November of last year, Touchque presented a payor’s copy of a tax statement as proof he paid property taxes for the fiscal year 2011 – 2012 in the amount of $13,250, added the lieutenant.
On December 14, Toucheque filed an official police report that the Township of Hillside had not credited him for his payment of $13,250 and offered the tax statement as evidence.
A police investigation determined the statement was not a receipt, but a notification that he owed $250 for failure to complete the proper form for a senior discount.
The amount on the statement was altered to reflect a $13,250 payment towards his property taxes in arrears.
Toucheque was charged on with fabrication of evidence and false swearing.
He was released on his own reconnaissance, said Ricciardi.
