Hillside High Student Council Recognized Nationally for Community Leadership, Service

Hillside High School's student council has been honored with the 2024 National Council of Excellence Award by the National Association of Student Councils (NASC), recognizing their leadership and positive impact on both the school and the broader community.AdThis distinction highlights the council's ongoing commitment to service and engagement activities that foster a vibrant school culture and support various charitable causes.

Throughout the past year, the student council at Hillside High School has successfully organized several fundraising initiatives, gathering $1000 annually for the Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center's Breast Center and the NJASC 2024 State Charity, Hugs for Brady.

Additionally, they have been instrumental in producing engaging school-wide events such as the annual Powder-Puff Football Game, Wing Off, and Cupcake War, all aimed at promoting a positive school climate and culture.

The school's involvement with the NJASC has continually earned them recognition for their substantial contributions to the local and larger community.

"Receiving a National Council of Excellence Award reflects the amazing dedication of the students and school to make their community a better place," remarked Ronn Nozoe, CEO of the National Association of Secondary School Principals, the parent organization supporting the NASC.

Principal Terry Woolard expressed his admiration for the students and staff, noting their exceptional commitment to enhancing the school's environment.Ad"They go out of their way every month to ensure that school spirit runs high here in the halls of Hillside High School. Go Comets!" said Woolard.

To be eligible for the National Council of Excellence Award, student councils must meet stringent criteria including a written constitution, regular meetings, democratic election processes, and a proven track record of leadership and service activities.

This award not only celebrates the council's achievements but also sets a standard for other schools aiming to foster an inclusive and proactive educational community.
