Hillside Cops Chase Down, Apprehend Stolen Car Suspects after Crash in Newark; Vehicle Reportedly Stolen Out of Irvington

Hillside Newark Irvington Township

Police in Hillside chased down and apprehended two suspects that led them on a pursuit into Newark early this morning.

Heavy and active police patrol that took place on the Newark border of Maple Ave. had an observant Hillside police unit spot a suspicious vehicle that circled the area several times shortly before 2 a.m.

An immediate check of the vehicle's license plates had officers notice the vehicle was reportedly stolen out of Irvington.

As police attempted to pull the vehicle over for traffic violations, the driver (with as many as three other occupants) sped off at a very high rate of speed.

Hillside Police officers following at a safe distance, the suspected vehicle sped its way into Newark, coming to a crashing halt in the area of Vassar Ave. and Clinton Place where at least four occupants bailed in several directions into the South Ward neighborhood.

With backup police arriving from Newark and Hillside, the initial police unit jumped into action, chasing down and apprehending two suspects nearby.

Police searched the area for the remaining two suspects for about an hour but came up empty handed.

In response to a rash of brazen armed robberies of businesses and individuals, in Newark's South Ward, there has been active, visible presence of police on the Hillside and Elizabeth borders.

There were no injuries reported in the crash.
