Hillsborough Teacher Accused of Engaging in Inappropriate Conduct with Student

Hillsborough Township

Middlesex County Prosecutor Andrew C. Carey and Chief Guy Armour of the Plainsboro Police Department said today that a Hillsborough High School teacher has been arrested and charged with engaging in inappropriate conduct with a 17-year old female student.

According to authorities, Kenneth Shindle, 27, of Plainsboro, was charged with two second degree counts of endangering the welfare of a child; one count for engaging in sexual conduct that would impair or debauch the morals of the child and one count for causing harm to the child making her an abused or neglected child.

Officials said the investigation began when Plainsboro Police responded to a possible dispute on the front lawn of Shindle’s home involving the teacher and student.

Their investigation determined that from January 1, 2018 through May 7, 2018 the defendant engaged in inappropriate conduct, which included unsupervised visits at the teacher’s home, with the 17-year old female student.

According to authorities, Shindle is currently suspended from the Hillsborough High School where he was employed as an English teacher for 5 years with tenure. He is being held at the Middlesex County Adult Corrections Center in North Brunswick pending his initial court appearance on June 6, 2018.

The investigation is active and is continuing.

Anyone with information is asked to call Detective McMahon at (609) 799-2333 or Detective Morris at (732) 745-4194.

As is the case with all criminal defendants, the charges against Shindle are merely accusations and he is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
