A high-speed police pursuit from Newark that spanned several counties concluded with the arrest of six juveniles in the Somerset County town of Watchung.The chase began in Newark’s North Ward just before 7:30 a.m. following reports of multiple robberies, including an armed incident on Clifton Avenue involving a 2019 Hyundai Sonata with the New Jersey license plate W47-RDV.
Newark Police located the suspect vehicle near Murray and Broad Street and attempted a traffic stop.
However, the suspects refused to comply, ignoring the officer’s lights and sirens, and sped through various streets in Newark.
The pursuit escalated as the suspects headed westbound on I-78, rapidly moving through Essex and Union Counties.
Eventually, the chase came to a halt near exit 26 when the suspects abandoned their vehicle and fled on foot.
All six juveniles were apprehended in the vicinity of the 30’s block of Cedar Road.
Fortunately, no injuries were reported during this intense pursuit. The suspects, all reportedly from Newark, are now in custody following the incident.
