Some of my old and present neighborhoods in the Newark and North Jersey Region are once again facing concerning weather conditions as dangerous smoke from massive Canadian wildfires blankets our areas.
According to meteorologists at the National Weather Service, air quality alerts have been issued due to the widespread haze, posing a significant concern for sensitive groups and individuals with respiratory illnesses.
The combination of high humidity, a westward wind speed of 7 mph, and a barometer reading of 29.95 indicates the presence of hazardous smoke particles in the atmosphere.
This calls for heightened precautions and awareness among the community, particularly those more susceptible to the adverse effects of poor air quality.
NWS meteorologists say the wildfire smoke has caused widespread haze, reducing visibility and casting a shadow over the region.
Despite the haze, the weather remains mostly sunny, with a high temperature near 85 degrees.
Sensitive groups, including individuals with respiratory illnesses, the elderly, and young children, are particularly vulnerable to the harmful effects of smoke.
