Happy Thanksgiving, New Jersey!
The day starts brisk and dry, with temperatures at 47 degrees in Newark as of 4:30 a.m. But don’t let the calm fool you — heavy rain is on the way, set to soak the region just in time for morning festivities.Family, whether you’re heading to the iconic Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York City or the beloved Newark Public Schools’ Soul Bowl, featuring Weequahic High School vs. Shabazz at Malcolm X Shabazz Football Stadium at 10 a.m., be prepared for wet weather.
Umbrellas and warm layers will be essential for anyone venturing outdoors.
Up in Sussex, Morris, and Passaic counties, where temperatures are hovering near or below freezing, NWS meteorologists are saying snow could mix with rain as the moisture arrives around 9:30 a.m., adding a wintry touch to the holiday morning.
The National Weather Service forecasts rain mainly before 1 p.m., with a high near 51 degrees.
Northeast winds at 8 to 14 mph will shift southwest later, with gusts reaching up to 24 mph. By Thursday night, skies will clear, and temperatures will drop to around 34 degrees.
Whether you’re watching the parade, cheering on your favorite team at the Soul Bowl, or simply gathering with family, stay safe, stay warm, and enjoy your Thanksgiving!
