Newark and the North Jersey region are bracing for heavy snowfall as an Accu-Weather alert has been issued for the region.Snow is expected to begin moving into the area around noon today, and precipitation will intensify as the evening progresses.
If you have errands or plans, consider heading out early this morning, as conditions will deteriorate quickly after midday.
This morning, Newark wakes up to a temperature of 34°F, but temperatures are expected to drop steadily through the morning.
By the time precipitation begins, conditions will support a transition from rain or mixed precipitation to snow.
Storm Update:
- Sunday: Cloudy skies with rain or mixed precipitation starting late morning or early afternoon. The mix will transition to snow, which could become heavy at times.
- Snowfall Rates: Up to 1 inch per hour in areas where heavier snow bands set up.
- Temperatures: Starting in the 30s, dropping into the upper 20s to low 30s by the end of the storm.
- Snow Accumulations: General totals of 2 to 4 inches, with localized amounts of 4 to 8 inches possible under the heaviest bands.
- Sunday Night: Snow tapers off around midnight, followed by clearing skies. Lows drop into the teens, marking the start of a bitterly cold week ahead.
Looking Ahead: Next week brings a stretch of frigid weather, with highs in the upper teens to lower 20s and nighttime lows between 5 and 10°F. Expect mostly sunny days paired with bitter cold, so bundle up if heading outdoors.
