Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 6 pm EST this evening.
Locations: Northern New Jersey Hazard types: snow, sleet and freezing rain. Accumulations: snow accumulation of 3 to 8 inches with highest amounts away from the coast, along with around a tenth of an inch of ice.
Timing: Heavy snow early this morning, changing to freezing rain, and then plain rain. Precipitation changes back to a wintry mix this afternoon before tapering off as snow.
Winds: east 10 to 15 mph, becoming northeast this afternoon. Temperatures: in the mid 30s. Visibilities: one quarter mile or less at times.
Snowfall rates, occasionally 1 to 2 inches per hour early this morning. Impacts: hazardous travel due to reduced visibilities and significant snow and ice accumulations for the early morning commute. Untreated roadways will likely become icy for the evening commute.
A Winter Storm Warning for heavy snow means severe winter weather conditions are expected or occurring. Significant amounts of snow are forecast that will make travel dangerous.
