Heavy rain that passed through Northern New Jersey flooded a community in Newark's North Ward this morning.
It happened just under NJ-21's bridge on Riverside and Chester avenues near Herbert Street where residents woke up to the flooding conditions with falling rain continuing to turn the community into a river at around 8:15 a.m.

Several cars were flooded out and possibly destroyed, but there were no trapped occupants inside the vehicles.
Residents say that this is the second time the flooding has occurred this week and that the neighborhood has Newark's jurisdiction on one side of the street while Essex County authorities maintain the other side.
