Police officials in Newark are reporting that due to expected heavy rainfall, many streets may be flooded and should be avoided Friday morning.
Beginning during the overnight hours, heavy rain and a possible thunderstorm with gusty winds fell in the region causing flooding on several streets.
Meteorologist says rain is expected to produce between 1 to 2 inches along with flooding.
Because motorists can become stranded by driving through flooded streets and high water, drivers are asked to avoid these locations and to use alternative routes. Drivers are also discouraged from traveling through any streets that are flooded, have high water or are believed to be submerged.
**The following locations should be avoided due to flooding conditions or the potential for flooding:**
• Raymond Blvd. and Blanchard Street
• Ferry and Foundry streets
• Foundry and Roanoke streets
• Foundry Street and Avenue P
• Mary Street and Avenue L
• Wilson Avenue and Avenue K
• Wilson Avenue and Avenue L
• Magazine and Amsterdam streets
• Hyatt and Wilson avenues
• South and Adams streets
• South and Pulaski streets
• South and Pacific streets
• South and Dawson streets
• Pacific and Calumet streets
• Pulaski and Clifford streets
• Jefferson and Clifford streets
• Van Buren and Clifford streets
• McClellan Street and Runiak Avenue
• McClellan Street and Frelinghuysen Avenue
• Frelinghuysen Avenue and Peddie Street
• Frelinghuysen Avenue and Noble Street
• Noble Street and Meeker Avenue
• Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. and State Street
