An early morning armed robbery of a gas station has authorities in Passaic County on the search for the suspect responsible.
Police responded to an armed robbery in progress that was reported at the BP Gas Station located in the 400 block of Wagaraw Road shortly before 5 a.m.
Arriving units were approached by an attendant who told cops that he was robbed, then assaulted by a Hispanic male suspect a short time before officers arrived to the scene.
The victim told cops that the violent suspect ordered cash and cigarettes while holding a blunt forced object in his hands.
When the clerk did not appear to move fast enough, the suspect reportedly went on the attack and began to strike the attendant with the object.
The suspect then fled the scene towards Paterson where officers in that city observed the suspect making his escape by jumping fences in the area of 5th Avenue and East 17th Street.
A county K-9 unit was requested but it is not immediately clear if the suspect was ever apprehended.
The victim's injuries were reported as non-life threatening.
The suspect reportedly made off with cash and cigarettes according to reports.
