A van reportedly stolen from a Newark neighborhood with contents inside that valued about $30,000 was recovered by some fast thinking officers in Harrison who also arrested one suspect.
According to police, at approximately 4:45 p.m. on Thursday, Harrison Police officers were dispatched to the area of Harrison and Sanford avenues on a report of a stolen white Ford van that was being tracked via GPS, by the owner, in that area.
Police canvassing the area, pulled into the Walmart parking lot where they observed the stolen vehicle parked in the rear southern part of the lot with a black male unloading tools and other items from the van and into a Ford Escape which was parked parallel to the van.
Police said the Ford Escape was occupied by another male sitting in the driver seat.
According to police, officers approached the vehicle at gunpoint, when the suspect who was unloading the tools- ran from the scene northbound towards Harrison Avenue.
A Harrison Police sergeant began chasing the suspect on foot while the other officer arrested the suspect who remained at the scene.
Police later identified the suspect as Mr. Robert Callahan who they charged with Receiving Stolen Property.
Kearny Police joined Harrison officers for a search for the suspect who fled on foot and described him as a black male who wore a black hooded sweatshirt with red lettering and blue denim jeans.
Police said the suspect remains at-large.
