Two winning tickets split the $1,330,192 Jersey Cash 5 jackpot from the Saturday, Nov. 7 drawing.
Each ticket is worth $665,096. We met the lucky winners and their stories will bring a smile to your face.
Adele K. and Joan P. from Harrison in Hudson County are mother and daughter. They spend a lot of time together and they also play the Lottery together. “We buy tickets all of the time and plan on sharing the prize,” said Adele. Jersey Cash 5 is their favorite game to play.
Every Saturday for the past 10 years, they travel together to Joan’s daughter’s house (Adele’s granddaughter) to see the grandsons (great grandsons) and watch them play soccer, baseball or whatever else is on the agenda for the day.
On the way, they often stop at Racemart, 2715 Route 1 South in North Brunswick, Middlesex County to grab a coffee, bring donuts for the kids and purchase a few Lottery tickets.
On Saturday night after their visit, the ladies were getting ready to go home. “I asked my Mom what the (Lottery) numbers were but they hadn’t been posted yet,” said Joan.
So, she checked the winning numbers on the Lottery mobile app and as she read them she realized that they had won!
It was a pleasure to meet these lovely ladies at Lottery Headquarters.
When asked how they will enjoy their winnings, Adele said that she’s not going to have to wait for the Senior Bus anymore because now she can afford to, “call a cab to take me up the hill.”
Joan said that she’s still letting this good news settle in but one thing was for certain - her daughter and son-in-law had asked her to join them on a family Disney Cruise. At the time, her response was, “Sure I will go...when I win the Lottery!” Well Joan, it’s time to pack your bag and mouse ears and get ready for some fun!
Remember though, there were two winning tickets sold for this drawing and the jackpot was large enough to make everyone’s year.
Our second winning ticketholder is Marcellos S., 33, from Elmwood Park in Bergen County.
Marcellos is a delivery person. He watches the jackpot amounts as he drives past the store windows; when it reaches a certain amount, he buys a few tickets. “I don’t check my tickets but when I drive by a store and see that the jackpot is back at $75,000 I know someone won.”
When he saw the jackpot reset, he brought his ticket to a young clerk who, after scanning the ticket, got a “funny look on his face, and called his dad over,” said Marcellos. When Marcellos was told that he had won, he asked to be paid.
The retailer just said, “No,” and printed out a message slip that showed him how much he had just won.
“I have a daughter and I can put some away for college. This will go a long way.” Marcellos’ lucky retailer is All Star Liquor Wine & Food, 326 Broadway in Elmwood Park, Bergen County.
Executive Director Carole Hedinger said that these were the only two jackpot-winning tickets sold for the Saturday, Nov. 7 drawing that matched all five numbers drawn.
The winning numbers were: 03, 25, 26, 29 and 32. “We are thrilled that the winning jackpot tickets were sold at All Star Liquor Wine & Food and Racemart,” said Hedinger. “For selling these tickets, the retailers will each receive a bonus check for $2,000 for the winning tickets sold. Overnight, they have become two more ‘lucky locations’ for the very fortunate lottery winners.”
