A 27-year-old Hamilton man attempting to flee after he was reportedly caught shoplifting, has been charged with the death of his 2-year-old son who was killed in the multi-vehicle crash.
Christoper J. Kuhn, 27, of Hamilton, who was driving with a suspended license, has been charged with homicide by vehicle, accidents involving death or injury while not properly licensed, retail theft, child endangerment and motor vehicle offenses.
According to authorities, employees of a Walmart in Levittown, PA, called police after they found Kuhn stealing a $228 Vizio sound bar.
The store’s security instructed Kuhn to remain at the scene as he reportedly took his 2-year-old son out of the shopping cart and headed towards the parking lot.
Kuhn then placed the child inside a gold 2007 Jeep Wagon, covered the vehicle's rear license plate with a sweatshirt and sped south on Route 13.
As Kuhn ran through a red light at the intersection of Route 13 and Levitttown Parkway, he was involved in a multi-vehicle crash that ultimately killed his son.
Kuhn took off on foot but was taken into custody shortly after.
A judge ordered Kuhn to be held on $5 million bail and is expected appear in court on Oct. 10.
The identity of the child has not been released.
There were no other injuries immediately reported.
