Authorities in Passaic County announced that based on an investigation by the Haledon Police, in conjunction with the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office Fatal Investigations Unit, Jamilette Huaranga, 21, from Haledon, was arrested in connection to the homicide that took place on July 19, in the area of Lee Avenue and Legion Place in Haledon.
Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes stated Daniele Jamilette Huaranga is charged with first-degree murder, fourth-degree Unlawful Possession of a Weapon, and third-degree Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose.
According to Passaic County officials, on July 19, at approximately 11:45 a.m., members of the Haledon Police responded to a residence in the area of Lee Avenue and Legion Place in Haledon on a report of a man stabbed.
The victim, A.L., a 19-year-old male from Haledon, was transported to Saint Joseph’s University Medical Center, where he was subsequently pronounced deceased, officials said.
The subsequent investigation revealed that Jamilette Huaranga was involved in a dispute with A.L. and stabbed A.L. with a knife.
Officials say she was seen by witnesses outside her home in bloodied clothing.
The crime of Murder has a sentencing range from a minimum of 30 years up to life imprisonment, the crime of Unlawful Possession of a Weapon has a maximum sentence of eighteen months, and the crime of Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose has a sentencing range of 5 to 10 years in State Prison.
Prosecutor Valdes said Jamilette Huaranga is scheduled to appear at Central Judicial Processing on July 20, and the State has filed a motion for pretrial detention in this matter that will be heard by a Superior Court Judge.
A criminal complaint is merely an accusation.
Despite this accusation, defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
