Police in Hackensack are investigating a shooting that occurred in a section of the city Wednesday morning.
According to reports, police responded to reports of shots fired that rang out in the vicinity of 457 Hudson Street just before 12:30 a.m.
Officers arrived at found a male victim suffering a gunshot wound in his chest at that location.
The victim was transported to St. Joseph's Hospital in Paterson for treatment and remains in an unknown condition.
Police believe that the victim was cleaning his weapon when and the gun accidentally went off.
The investigation remains active and ongoing.
