Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella announced the arrest of Matthew Heitman, 33, Hackensack, on charges of Possession and Distribution of Explicit Images of Minors. The arrest is the result of an investigation conducted by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office under the direction of Chief Jason Love.
According to officials, on Thursday, May 6, members of the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Cyber Crimes Unit executed a search warrant at the residence of Heitman during the course of a months-long Internet investigation.
The investigation revealed that Heitman used the Internet to view, download, and possess more than 1,000 digital files and distributed multiple digital files depicting nude and/or sexually explicit prepubescent and pubescent children.
As a result of the investigation, Heitman was arrested on Thursday, May 6 in Paramus, and charged with one count of Possession Of Explicit Images of Minors and one count of Distribution Of Explicit Images of Minors.
According to officials, Heitman was remanded to the Bergen County Jail pending a first appearance in Central Judicial Processing Court in Hackensack.
