Authorities in Paterson are investigating the motive behind a shooting that injured a person in a section of the city on Sunday night.
According to preliminary reports, at approximately 9:35 p.m, officials at St. Joseph's Medical Center notified police when a gunshot victim arrived at the emergency room suffering bullet wounds.
Earlier in the evening, police responded to reports of shots fired in the 40's block of Mercer Street, where officers recovered multiple shell casings and two cars struck by bullets.
A ShotSpotter device detected over a dozen rounds of gunfire in the neighborhood.
Police are trying to determine if the two incidents are connected.
The Passaic County Prosecutor's Office has been notified and is assisting in the investigation.
