Police in Newark are investigating a shooting that caused injuries to a person during the early morning hours.
Shortly before 1:20 a.m., officials at Beth Israel Hospital notified police that a gunshot victim entered the emergency department suffering a bullet wound.
Police arrived at the hospital and attempted to ascertain the location of the shooting.
At approximately 11:30 p.m., residents in the vicinity of Clinton Place and Hawthorne Avenue dialed 911 after hearing multiple gunfire rounds in their neighborhood.
Residents said multiple people were observed running from the scene in heavy rain.
Police did canvass the scene, but it is not immediately known if the victim suffered his injuries in that section of the South Ward.
The incident is under an active investigation.
