According to a preliminary investigation, officials at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center contacted police around 7:40 p.m. after a male victim entered the emergency department suffering from gunshot wounds.

The unidentified man was treated for his injuries and is expected to recover.

Earlier in the day, at approximately 4:15 p.m., Newark police responded to a ShotSpotter activation that detected multiple rounds of gunfire near 1084 Broad Street in the city’s downtown district.

Upon arrival, officers located several shell casings at the scene but found no victims.

Around the same time, police in neighboring Irvington Township responded to reports of shots fired in the 200 block of Lyons Avenue.

Officers canvassed the area but did not locate any victims there either.

Both Newark and Irvington authorities are actively investigating whether these incidents are connected and are working to determine the circumstances surrounding the shootings.
