Police in Newark are looking into a shots fired incident that had bullets strike a vehicle on Wednesday evening in a neighborhood in the city.
According to police, a ShotSpotter activation that detected multiple gunshots had police officers responding to the vicinity of South 9th Street and 12th Avenue at approximately 9:55 p.m.
Units arrived at the scene found evidence that a shooting occurred but after they secured then searched the area officers did not find any victims.
Police say the shooters opened fire at an unknown target in the area but struck a car.
The official motive for the shooting remains under investigation.
