Authorities in East Orange are investigating a shooting that struck and injured a person in a residential neighborhood overnight.
Residents were immediately startled after hearing multiple rounds of gunfire that erupted in the vicinity of Grove Street and Hoffman Boulevard at around 2:15 a.m.
Several police units rushed to the scene with lights -but no sirens- found the victim suffering gunshot wounds upon their arrival.
The victim was rushed to University Hospital where doctors treated life-threatening injuries.
Detectives taped off a large area around the crime scene as they investigate this shooting.
It is not immediately clear if this shooting incident is related to at least three others that occurred since last Friday evening, through Saturday, in other East Orange neighborhoods.
A spokesperson for the Essex County Prosecutor's Office could not immediately confirm that the victim has died as of 9:41 a.m.
City officials did not answer calls for public information.
