Gunman Fired Shots in Newark South Ward Amid Saturday's Heavy Rainfall

Despite heavy rainfall sweeping through the state, Newark police responded to reports of shots fired in the city's South Ward on Saturday.

The incident occurred around 3:20 p.m. near the intersection of Farley Avenue and Clinton Avenue, where an armed suspect discharged a weapon for unknown reasons.

Upon arrival, police discovered shell casings at the scene, prompting them to cordon off the area and initiate an investigation. The Newark Shooting Response Team was summoned to lead the inquiry into the incident.

Authorities credited the ShotSpotter device for promptly alerting them to the gunfire, which took place just a couple of blocks from Newark Police Headquarters.

Fortunately, no injuries were reported, and no arrests have been made in connection with the incident.

Despite adverse weather conditions, Newark Police officers and detectives continue to maintain vigilance and respond swiftly to ensure public safety in Newark's communities.
