Police in Newark announced no arrests in a shot-fired incident that injured a male in a section of the city Friday.
The early morning shooting happened around 3:20 a.m. in the vicinity of 16th Avenue and South 8th Street.
Firefighters were first on the when they found the victim suffering a bullet wound in his arm at that location.
Crews assisted the wounded man by placing a bandage on his arm before police and EMS arrived at the scene.
He was taken to University Hospital for treatment and is expected to survive.
The shooting happened less than 8 hours after the mayor and several high-ranking law enforcement and public safety officials staged a 'Walk to End Violence".
The peace march began on Avon Avenue and South 10th Street and ended at Hopkins Place between South 18th Street and South 19th Street in Newark's South Ward.
Some residents in the area described the neighborhood as an "unaddressed crime-stricken community." They welcomed city officials and law enforcement's 'end of violence walk.'
No arrests have been reported in the shooting.
