Police in Irvington Township are investigating an earlier shooting that occurred in a neighborhood that residents say has been "unsafe for a while."
Reports of shots fired that rang out in the area of Stuyvesant and Prospect avenues around noon sent heavy police presence to the scene where they immediately set up a crime scene after they found a male victim struck by gunfire at that location.
EMS transported the victim to the hospital where there were no immediate reports of a fatality.
The motive for the shooting is under investigation.
There were no arrests reported.
