Police are investigating a shooting that happened overnight in the city's South Ward leaving a man dead.
The man was transported by private vehicle to Newark's Beth Israel Hospital at around 11p.m. suffering serious injury from gunfire according to reports.
According to a spokesperson for the Essex County Prosecutor's Office, the victim died from his injuries a short time later.
Police setup a crime scene on Aldine Street and Forest Place after learning that the shooting had occurred in this area.
A full investigation is underway by the Essex County Prosecutor's Office.
In a possible separate incident, a victim suffering injury from gunfire that checked into University Hospital shortly before 1 a.m. has police investigating.
It is not immediately known where the victim was shot at or the status of his condition.
Confirmed gunfire was investigated in Orange and in Newark late last night with no victims found.
