Detectives for The Essex County Prosecutor's Office are investigating a shooting that killed a male early Saturday morning.
According to a preliminary investigation, police responded to reports of shots fired that rang out in the 200 block of North 9th Street at approximately 12:20 a.m.
Authorities say, officers arrived at the scene and found a severely injured male suffering an apparent gunshot wound to the head at that location.
The unidentified victim was pronounced dead a short time later, according to officials.
The suspects who fired the shots fled the scene in two separate vehicles that were found unoccupied in Belleville according to reports.
The motive for the shooting remains under investigation.
