A late night shooting that happened in the city has authorities investigating this morning.
Residents in the area of 18th Street and Avon Ave. said multiple rounds of gunfire rang out at around 11 p.m. sending them scrambling for cover in their homes. Residents said, minutes after hearing gunfire, emergency vehicle with sirens blazing arrived to the scene where police found a male victim aying on the ground unconscious.
The man (who was reported to be in his early 20's) was transported to University Hospital where he died from his injuries a short time later.
Some of the residents in the area said that they have seen the man in the area before but didn't actually know him or knew if he actually lived in the area.
The identity of the victim has not been released at this time.
Investigators from the Essex County Prosecutor's Officer were on the scene collecting evidence.
